Eire Og Annacarty  1-13, Arravale Rovers 1-13.

The opening round of the 2017 West under 21 B Hurling Championship in Annacarty finished all square as the home side recovered from a seven-point half-time deficit to grab a share of the spoils thanks to an injury-time Stephen O'Brien long range point. A remarkable achievement considering that Arravale Rovers outplayed them in the first half and spells of the second half.

Arravale Rovers made the early running, clocking up 1-02 inside the opening 10 minutes before Aidan Griffin opened Eire Og's account with a pointed free in the 12th minute. The visitors could easily have been further ahead only for poor shooting and shots dropping short into Arnold O'Dwyer's hands, while Eire Og struggled to make headway against the Rovers defence. From play & placed balls, Aidan Griffin kept the home side in check, but at the interval the Tipp town side were full value for their half-time lead of 1-09 to 0-05.

Aidan Griffin popped over a brace of points to begin the second period, before in the 36th minute, Evan Heffernan flashed home a goal following a goalmouth scramble from Conor Bradshaw's shot being charged down. It was now game on as Aidan Griffin pointed a free to leave 2 between the sides with 20 minutes remaining. Rovers steadied the ship after that and both sides swapped points as time began to run out for the home side. However once more Aidan Griffin knocked over another brace of points before Stephen O'Brien levelled matters deep into injury time to leave the sides level 1-13 apiece at the full-time whistle. Amongst Eire Og's leading performers were Eoghan Loughman, Paul Burke, Stephen & Mike O'Brien and ace-marksman Aidan Griffin.
