McGrath Oil West U21B Football Championship Semi-Final
Eire Og Annacarty Donohill 2-6(12)
Golden/Kilfeacle 0-9(9)

Eire Og Annacarty Donohill qualified for a first McGrath Oil West U21 B Football Championship Final since 2009 when they defeated Golden/Kilfeacle in Golden on Friday night. Two first half goals together with a strong team performance laid the foundation for Eire Og’s victory.

A strong breeze blew down from the dressing room end which favoured Eire Og in the first half. It took five minutes for the opening score of the game but the next six minutes would have a major say on the final result. Jack Kingston pointed the opening score of the game. Three minutes later a high ball dropped short in around the square which was palmed out by the Golden/Kilfeacle goalkeeper but deflected into the net by a defender. Conor Bradshaw pointed and this was quickly followed by goal number two as Cian Mooney rattled the net. Golden/Kilfeacle struggled to get into the final third of the field as Eire Og were quick to get numbers back. Killian Hayde opened their accounted as the first quarter ended with a pointed free before Niall Heffernan pointed from play. Aidan Griffin scored Eire Og’s first point from a placed ball. Both teams had chances after this but a series of wides by both sides saw the score remain the same. Conor Bradshaw finished the first half scoring as Eire Og Annacarty Donohill lead at the break 2-4 to 0-2.

Golden/Kilfeacle needed a good start to the second half but it was Eire Og who increased their lead to ten points following two points (play and free) from Aidan Griffin in the opening seven minutes. This would be Eire Og’s only scores of the half. Credit to Golden/Kilfeacle they didn’t give up. Kevin Hally scored his first of six second half points and quickly followed this with a pointed free. Jack Currivan pointed and with a quarter of an hour remaining Eire Og led by seven points. Both sides were creating chances but defences were having a big say in the game. Both sides were working the ball through the hands but it gave the opposition time to get numbers pack in defence. Golden/Kilfeacle though chipped away at the deficit and Kevin Hally hit four more well taken points from play and frees. The goal they craved though didn’t come though there was late goal drama with the Eire Og goalkeeper saving before the defenders cleared. Eire Og victorious on a final score of 2-6 to 0-9.

Best for Eire Og were Paul Devlin, Conor Bradshaw and Aidan Griffin while Golden/Kilfeacle were best Kevin Hally, Niall Heffernan and Jack Currivan.
