Eire Og Annacarty 0-13, Killenaule 1-08.
Eire Og Annacarty maintained their winning ways, this time in the big ball as they edged out Killenaule in this lively opening encounter of the County Senior Football Championship in Cashel last Sunday evening.
It was Killenaule's Tony Doyle that opened the scoring inside the opening minutes, which was answered to by a well-worked point from Brian Fox 6 minutes later. Eire Og had plenty of pocession in the early stages, but struggled to make impact on the scoreboard, shooting some poor wides before the equaliser. They were in front by the 10th minute thanks to points from Dinny Crosse and Donal O'Dwyer, after Tony Doyle had his 2nd point prior to that. Kilenau;e were level a couple of minutes later, before the game's only goal came after a Killenaule attack split the Eire Og backline wide open for Thomas Keaveney to beat Daragh Mooney from close range. Cian Mooney and Tony Doyle swapped points before Seanie Ryan planted a fine point to leave two between the sides with seven minutes to the interval. Daniel Guinan and Dinny Crosse (free) closed out the first half scoring with further points to leave the South side ahead, 1-05 to 0-06 at Sean Lonergan's half-time whistle. Eire Og sho t 6 first half wides compared to a solitary one from Killenaule, not helping their cause.
Eire Og needed to start the second half on the front foot, especially facing the wind and they responded with a hat-trick of points inside the first five minutes through Aidan Griffin(2, 1 free) and another Seanie Ryan effort to retake the lead only for Michael Doyle to level matters by the 38th minute. Dinny Crosse and Daragh Mooney pointed a brace of frees to give Eire Og a two point at the three-quarter mark. In the 47th minute, Killenaule turned over a potential Eire Og move from defence to create a goal scoring oppertunity which was saved by Daragh Mooney, only for Referee Sean Lonergan to award a penalty after a foul in the build-up. It was John "Bubbles" O'Dwyer v Daragh Mooney for the penalty, and the Eire Og goalie came out on top with an excellent save. Donal O'Dwyer stretched the lead to three with his 2nd point. Killenaule were now struggling to get any foothold in attack thanks to a watertight Eire Og backline, however they pulled the lead back to the minimum following points from Michael Doyle and John "Bubbles" O'Dwyer from long range. By now Killenaule were down to 14 men following the dismissal of first half goalscorer Thomas Keaveney, as they pressed to get something from this game. Eire Og made sure of victory with Tom Fox tapping over from close range to ensure Eire Og victory on a 0-13 to 1-08 at Sean Lonergan's full-time whistle.
