Golden\Kilfeacle 2-16, Eire Og Annacarty\Galtee Rovers 2-09.
Golden\Kilfeacle's strong finish proved just enough to see off a dogged Eire Og Annacarty\Galtee Rovers combination in Annacarty last Wednesday which was played in a torrential downpour. Both teams deserved credit providing an entertaining encounter in trying conditions. This win now puts Golden/Kilfeacle through to the semi-finals of the competition.
Playing against a strong breeze Golden/Kilfeacle started brightly and led by five after eight minutes. Jack Leamy opened the scoring with two pointed frees before Ben Currivan finished a fine passing movement to the Eire Og/Galtee net. Eamon Quirke kickstarted the combo into life with a brace of goals inside a four-minute spell, both created by Cian Ryan runs and lay-offs. The sides were now level and for the rest of the half both sides traded scores. Paidi Bradshaw the score-in-chief for the combo while Jack Leamy and Ben Currivan were on target for Golden/Kilfeacle. Jack Leamy from placed balls and play while Ben Currivan added four more points from play to leave the half time score, 1-11 to 2-08.
The persistent rainfall got gradually heavier as the second half got underway. Jack Leamy opened the second half with a pointed free and he would add two more points from placed balls during the half. Gradually Golden/Kilfeacle pulled ahead thanks mainly to the craft and opportunism of Jack Leamy who's well taken goal on 48 minutes effectively killed off the contest to ensure Golden\Kilfeacle ran out winners 2-16 to 2-09 at Paddy Russell's full-time whistle.
This was a fine all round performance by Golden/Kilfeacle. The platform for the win was set in the first half when playing against the wind, going in at half time all square. Leading lights for the combination of Eire Og/Galtee were Evan Breen, David Harold-Barry, Daragh O'Brien, Cian Ryan and Eamon Quirke.
