Eire Og Annacarty 1-06, Galtee Rovers 0-08.
Seanie Ryan's 58th minute point was the deciding score in this Senior Football relegation semi-final in Sean Treacy Park, Tipperary. This result condemns Galtee Rovers into a last-chance opportunity against Ardfinnan to remain in the Senior Football ranks for 2021. The Bansha side will no doubt be wondering how they let this game slip away as they practically led throughout the game only to let it slip thanks to a strong Eire Og surge led by Brian Fox.
The game was a slow burner to begin with. Shane Egan pointing an early free for Galtee Rovers. It took Eire Og 10 minutes to reply with a long-range pointed effort from Liam Og O'Dwyer. Defences were on top as both sets of forwards struggled to create clear cut opportunities. Adam McGrath and Shane Egan (free) restored Galtee's lead with points which Dinny Crosse answered with a pointed free. Sean Daly closed out the first half scoring with a point from a narrow angle to leave the half-time score 0-04 to 0-02 in favour of the Bansha men. A poor advert for Gaelic Football was the story of the first half.
Galtee Rovers started the 2nd half as they finished the first with Shane Egan pointing from play. They were then reduced to 14 men after Edmund O'Dwyer was dispatched to the Sin-Bin after receiving a black card on 36 minutes. Eire Og failed to capitalise on their numerical advantage during the 10 minutes Edmund O'Dwyer was in the Bin, and it Shane Egan who scored another free to stretch the lead to four.
Now it was getting serious for Eire Og, and they duly sprung Tom Fox and Conor O'Brien from the subs bench. This double substitution galvanised Eire Og into action as County star Brian Fox pushed into attack. Conor O'Brien and joint-captain Paul Downey halved the Rovers' lead with long range points. Daire Egan palmed over another Galtee point to keep in front at the 2nd half water break. Following the water break, it was Eire Og who were now on top. Brian Fox, now leading the attack, landed his first score with a well-taken point on 51 minutes, before the same player latched onto a through ball to chip the advancing Eddie Grace into the net to put the Annacarty side ahead on 54 minutes. The lead was short lived when Adam McGrath levelled matters with a pointed free. Extra time loomed, however it was Eire Og that had the last word, with Seanie Ryan landing what proved the winning point with 2 minutes left on the clock. Eire Og held out until David Grogan's full-time whistle, ensuring they retain their Senior Football status for 2021, with Galtee Rovers needing to beat Ardfinnan to avoid the dreaded drop to Intermediate.
